What this site is
Drawing Board Walsall is a small editorial site about designing and altering homes in the Walsall area. I started it because most people only commission a building project once or twice, and the language around it can be opaque.
The writing is mine. I keep it concrete and avoid jargon where I can, and explain it where I can't.
What it covers
Two strands run through the guides. The first is local: how design plays out in particular places.
- Extensions and new homes across Aldridge
- Heritage and conservation work around Lichfield
- Home improvements for Bloxwich and Brownhills properties
- Willenhall's mix of terraces and former workshops
The second strand is the process — house extension design, loft conversions, how planning applications are prepared, what building regulations drawings explain, and the particular care that listed buildings and conservation areas demand.
How it's written
I write each piece to answer the question first, then fill in the detail. No filler, no padding. Where something genuinely depends on the property or the council, I say so rather than pretending there's one rule.
Who it's for
Homeowners weighing up an extension, a conversion or a new build, and anyone who wants to understand a brief before they sit down with an architect. If something here is unclear or missing, write to me at ben@walsallarchitects.co.uk.
